'Tis the Season

Sunday, November 2, 2008
Around here, Christmas is a secular holiday. It's purely about family, friends, love and (of course) the prezzies.

With one or two exceptions, I'm done with my Christmas shopping. This is normal for me, as I refuse to go shopping after Thanksgiving. Refuse. Crowds give me hypertension, and I really don't want to start the season of joy with an aneurysm.

So now that November's here, I'm starting to think about getting my Christmas gifts ready to hit the post office. That will leave me most of the month to prepare goodies, and all of December to point and laugh at those who didn't get things done early.

So I'll be heading out to get packing material and such today, and I'll be off to the Post Office on Tuesday. Because if I get things done now, then I can enjoy Christmas then without stress.

Hear hear!

Except that SOMEONE who shall remain Jim, hasn't yet gotten back to me.

I'm all about the Internet, which means I can order in my pajamas! While I'm sick!

Woot!

seshdotcom, as Michelle notes, we are not into the spam around here.

Except with pineapple.

So you're welcome to join the conversation, but keep the pimping to yourself. And you might want to review my comment policy before you do.

Last year, I bought everyone something from Amazon, but although I did it relatively early, some of the books arrived just in time.
This year, the family (starting to grow with the addition of my future SIL and future niece/nephew) is going to try the Secret Santa approach. While I'm thrilled that I won't have to buy as much this year, it makes me a little sad, as I love wrapping presents and coming to the tree with oodles of fun packages. I always wrap in a "theme" (red and gold, blue and white, etc.) and one year I wrapped everything in brown craft paper and cotton string and wrote lines from "My Favorite Things" on them in white pencil. I think that has been my favorite theme.
Anywho, I like the wrapping and giving, but I hate the shopping.

1) I got hit, but wield the delete comment button with impunity.

2) Just for you.

I had fried spam at a fair a couple of years ago and was surprised at how good it was. It was a little spam sandwich on one of those little square whitebread dinner rolls that come by the dozen in little cardboard trays.

I like getting presents. I like giving them too, but my paltry offerings never seem to impress anyone, so it's not as much fun as it could be.

Also, do you know that the spammers get paid by the number of blogs they comment on? I delete them off of mine as soon as I see them, in the hopes that they're gone before the spam employer makes the rounds to see it there.

Hmm. Actually, reading over that, maybe I should leave the comments up a bit so that the employers see them, pay for them, and then I get rid of them. No sense punishing the unwitting employee, right?

Is that long enough for them to get google juice MWT?

Assuming that nofollow isn't being used.

Yay! The penguin is back!

MWT, for me, the effectiveness of a gift is not the expense, but how much thought is put into it.

If the giver pays attention to who I am and what I like, then their gifts almost always impress.

In other words, it's the thought that counts, but thoughtful people give good gifts.

Yeah, that was my obscure comment further upthread. :)
