Yawn

Am I the only one who is greeting the news of Guns-n-Roses' long awaited album Chinese Democracy with a big yawn?

I've been over Axl Rose for years. I thought he had an interesting voice in the '80's - sort of raw and angry, but also well suited to the so-called rock ballads.

Now? I'm waiting for him to get over himself. While I listen to Slash play for Velvet Revolver.

Sorry, Axl - for me, you're a day late and dollar short.

I was also a bit, surprised, to see a new AC/DC album recently.

AC/DC? Really?

(Spoken from a guy that has every album, even some imports...)

Secret fact: Axl Rose is Ethyl Merman reincarnated.

You think I'm kidding. Start singing "Welcome to the jungle" in an Ethyl voiec.

See?

Told ya.

Never had any interest in them in the first place.

I picked up AC/DC's new album - they are coming to Tacoma and I really wanted to see them. Tickets sold out in two hours though and are starting on the resale market at $300 a seat - and I don't want to see them THAT badly!

I haven't listened to it yet. AC/DC did piss me off by being one of the artists who entered into an exclusive marketing agreement w/ Walmart. WTF?

I'll probably listen to Guns n Roses too, just because I liked their previous album so well, that type of rock is totally my sweet spot. But yeah, Velvet Revolver is awesome.

Michelle, you have way too much time on your hands.

Because only an idle, idle mind could make an Ethyl Merman/Axl Rose connection.

It's a remnant of my misspent youth.

Also, Ethyl Merman should have covered "Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now."

That would frequently draw out violence from my friends.

I remember about five, six years ago (I think), G'n'R showing up at an MTV awards show in anticipation of the upcoming release of Chinese Democracy (like I said, five, six years ago). It was the lineup that included Buckethead. Anyway, I remember thinking, "Wow, these guys would be pretty good if they lost the lead singer."

I think Axl has gone and swapped out the entire rest of the lineup again since that show. I know Buckethead's been touring solo, because there was a recent announcement of a show up the street at the Neighborhood Theater, up on the corner.

Here's a secret about G'n'R--actually, it's not a secret, but it's something people seem to overlook: nearly all of G'n'R's good songs--written or co-written by Izzy Stradlin. Seriously. Go check it out for yourself. I think there may be, like, two decent G'n'R songs he didn't have his hand in. When Izzy left, thppbbt, that was it for the band. Axl and Slash have their merits (Slash is a helluva guitar player, no doubt about it), but Izzy was the man.

I'll go ahead and correct myself--it's all of three decent G'n'R songs sans Izzy: "Welcome To The Jungle," "November Rain" and "Civil War." Not counting covers, of course.
