PR Troubles

Sunday, January 25, 2009
I read in the Washington Post this morning that Al Qaeda is having some trouble with their PR. It seems President Obama is well liked in the Muslim world, unlike his predecessor, and that doesn't sit well with Al Qaeda. It doesn't sit well at all.

They're trying to sway public opinion by calling President Obama a "house Negro," and blaming him for the fighting in Gaza, among other things. Their position seems to be that President Obama's policies are basically carbon copies of President Bush's, and that he's an enemy to the Muslim world. Of course, the President's actions in closing Gitmo and other policy decisions are making them very, very nervous...and a bit desperate, methinks.

That's a shame.

What, Bush was exacerbating the problem? Who could have guessed that? Huh!

The commentators on CBS on Tuesday, in the hours before the inauguration, were noting that President Obama had announced he would be prominently using his middle name, in part because it gives him a sort of foot in the door for American PR in the Muslim world.

Who'd'a thunk that something as simple as openly using your own name would simultaneously take the piss out of al Qaida and ultraconservative pundits and their dittoheads?

Yet another reason Mr. Obama appears to be made out of pure refined Awesome.

What? The hate-mongering isn't working so good anymore? Darn.

I guess this would be the part in the proceedings where the traditional Al Qaeda audience sees them for who they really are.

MWT, we can only hope. We can only hope.

Don't you hate it when you finally get what you want and then it turns out that wanting it was better than having it?

Al Qaida couldn't wait to get rid of Bush, but now it turns out that without him, their base doesn't have enough to hate...

Oh, wait, that would mean that Al Qaida's goal isn't righting of perceived wrongs, or religious ideals, or freedom or self determination or anything else - it's just plain old hate.

Well, fuck, I wonder what Allah would say about that?

*Of course, much the same could be said about Rush Limbaugh and his band of mindless NeoCon zombies hoping the country will go to hell in a hand basket, just so they can be right about Obama.

Maybe Rush and Osama should get together for tea, they seem to have common goals.

Jim, that thought had occurred to me, as well.
