Yes, driver of the Ford Expedition who parked in the Handicapped parking at the TCF Bank in the Parker Pavilion at 1:00 p.m. on January 19, 2010, I did in fact see you walk into the bank with no visible indicator of a handicap. I also noticed that you had no handicap tags or placards on your vehicle.

You know what else I noticed? You're an ASS.

Last time I saw that I walked up to the counter person at the business I was at and asked very loudly if he knew the number of parking enforcement so the car could be towed. Unfortunately, at least seven businesses share that tiny parking lot, so the offender turned out to not be at the one I was at. Next time I might just go to all of the businesses involved.

Not every handicapped person has a "visible" handicap. High blood pressure, diabetes, etc., all qualify as a "disability" for DMV purposes, but obviously have no outward signs.

That having been said, though, it's inexcusable not to display a handicap placard IF in fact they legally possess one.

Paul, that's fair.

I only get ugly on this issue when the vehicle is driven by one who has no visible disability AND displays no tags. In every other instance, I give the benefit of the doubt, for the very reason you state.

The driver also left his companion in the vehicle, which I personally find suspicious in these instances.

I see from the picture that it is license number 564-SKA. I assume that is a Colorado license plate, but I cannot read the state name. The place doesn't look very busy either.

I agree. He (or she) is an ASS.

Jerry, it was a Colorado plate.

And the place had two customers in it. Me, and the ASS.

I've forgotten to hang my H-tag a time or two (or five or six). Even though I am obviously handicapped when I walk, it still doesn't stop people from giving me the hairy eyeball. :-)

We don't have a handicapped placard despite the many times that my father-in-law (100% blind) has told us to get one. So when he's with us now, because we don't have an indicator, and despite his handicap, we still park in regular parking, even if that means parking a hell of a long way from the store.

As a funny aside, years ago we went to a movie on Christmas eve with him and some of my in-laws. It was snowing like crazy and the theater was really crowded. The guy driving pulled up to the curb in front of the theater to let us out and a police officer rushes over to us shouting "you can't park here, you can't park here." My father-in-law was one of the last ones out of the car before the driver went to find a spot. He stepped out of the car and snapped out his cane and the officer shut up in an instant.
