Kansas City

Tuesday, November 9, 2010
I don't know much about Kansas or Missouri. Other than they're flat, I mean.

Today I find myself in Kansas City for a business meeting. I'm not going to have much time to see anything this trip, as I'm basically in and out. But I strongly suspect I will be making this trip on a somewhat regular basis this year. So what's to see or do in KC? And the first one to say "go to church" is getting a whack with the Shovel of Doom™.

Take some time to go to the Steamboat Arabia Museum: http://www.1856.com/

It's pretty cool.

And make sure to have some BBQ. Because Kansas City does have some awesome BBQ.

Food. Last time I was in K.C., went to a K.C. Masterpiece restaurant and had the sampler platter. (Urp.) It was wonderful. But there are plenty of BBQ places that are small, local, super tasty and not chains. (grin)

According to the immortal song "Kansas City" by Wilburt Harrison, they have a crazy way of lovin' there (you gotta get you some), the wine is good (especially on the corner of twelfth and vine), and it's a freindly city. Hope that helps!

reary - it's how the ugly head gets sometimes.

spell fail - that should have been friendly, not freindly. . . damn!

The National WWI museum under the Liberty Memorial is almost a must see.

If you are going to do BBQ, I recommend Oklahoma Joe's (in the gas station or down on 119th street), Gates and Arthur Bryant's are good, but not the best in my humble opinion.

The Power and Light district has interesting restaurants and the Plaza for shopping (new to your blog thanks to Stonekettle Station, so sorry if I am missing all your interests - Just happen to live in KC).
