Boogie Blogging Friday - Sympathy Edition

Friday, June 22, 2012
Boogie's been a bit more elderly than normal lately, due to his recent anesthesia and an upper respiratory infection. For the first time ever, he had a day this week when he didn't feel up for walkies.

And then yesterday my friend Sarah and her partner lost their beloved dog Grendel. Grendel and Boogie were about the same size (100 lbs), and Grendel was a year older than our Boogs.

My heart aches for Sarah and Nick, and my stomach is clenching in anticipation of the pain of losing Boogs. Walkies have been a mainstay of Boogie's life, his whole life, and I fear that this first refusal will mark the beginning of the end of our time with him. And that makes me profoundly sad as I empathize with my friend.

Fair winds and following seas, sweet Grendel.

My heart aches for Sarah and Nick as well as your family. Losing a pet is incredibly painful and unavoidable. ((hugs)) all around.

Thank you, Janiece.

I was thinking of you and Boogie yesterday, actually, because we've talked before about having old dogs.

Dogs really only know now, so the best thing we can do is make sure that now is happy and full of love.

Oh...seems to be an epidemic of the going around. Have a friend up here that just lost a long time dogie friend.

My best friend recently lost her dog and she was inconsolable. But since she's blind and Claudette was her guide dog, it probably was a lot to handle, a double whammy. Oh sorry, the point I was trying to make is the Claudette put up quite a fight and survived a lot longer than the vets projected. She went through stages of apathy then bounced right back.

Boogie might be just having a bad day. Stay positive. And *hugs*
