Boogie Blogging Friday - Holding His Own Edition

Friday, November 9, 2012
Boogie has finished his initial course of treatment of Adequan, and has been taking his twice daily dose of Neurontin.

While he still tires easily and going down the stairs can be problematic, we've noticed an incremental improvement in his mobility and comfort as a result of this course of treatment.

So we're glad that he's feeling better, although we were hoping for a more dramatic change. We'll continue to provide whatever treatment will improve his quality of life, of course, but it pains me to admit that it's just a holding action at this point. He'll be eleven years old in two days, which given his size means he's moved into extreme old age.

My good, good boy.

Skritches to Good Boy Boogie. I'm happy that Adequan is helping him.

I know how you feel, Janiece. While Edison's medications have been working well for him, I know it's just a matter of time before he succumbs to cancer and/or heart disease. It's sad, but it's a fact of life.

Boogie's got you and SmartMan and lots of other people who love him. Not only is he a good boy, but he's a very lucky boy.

Well, he looks really good and it's obvious that you haven't let him put on weight. Our vet kept emphasizing that as Morgen got older, to ease any stress on his hips and back. So, here's my wish that you and Boogie will have quality time together for quite a while.

IllanoyGal, we'd read the same thing - that excess weight shortens a dog's life considerably, so we've always kept him trim. Of course, he doesn't have a tendency to overeat (unlike his owners), which helps considerably.

Yes, Morgen was pretty good about not stuffing himself either, but his owner is having problems 'cause she no longer has him around now for his daily walks and it's worse than pulling teeth to get her out walking anymore. (sigh) Those pounds can sure sneak up on you.
