Oh! Oh! Oh! It's Finally Here!

Tuesday, July 21, 2009
That's right, folks - it's finally here.

My Galileoscope, delivered today via Fedex. I bought one for the Smart Man and I, one to donate through the the IYA2009 Donation Program, and one more, whose purpose shall be revealed in due time. Bwahaha.

These are nifty little devices, only $15.00, and sport a 50-mm (2-inch) diameter, and a 25- to 50-power achromatic refractor. They were sponsored by a variety of corporate contributors and government sponsored agencies, and their manufacture is a cornerstone project of the International Year of Astronomy.

You can still order them either for yourself, as gifts or to donate.

I feel like a kid...

I still had money left in my PayPal account from my last Australian SF story sale, so I ordered one. I'm hoping it comes before I start my Astronomy class in September -- would like to put a link to the order page if turns out to be acceptable. (grin)

Now, where did I put that big ball joint for my tripod?

Hee. Actually, Phil, there's a screw mounted in the bottom of the 'scope so that a standard camera tripod will work.

Cool. Hmmm, been spending money like a drunken yuppie lately, but maybe one more thing...

Oh I know that. It's just that the ball joint I've got makes aiming ever so much easier. (grin)

That's a funny coincidence. My wife and I just got our two scopes a couple of days ago. I'm not allowed to put them together until our house is done being renovated though.

Stupid lack of space and logical wife.

Hi Janiece ...

Been following your blog for a while now but this is the first time I really felt a need to ask a question.

If I may, was your (or does anyone who has received their 'scope have an) order # higher than 8250? I have been patiently waiting since March 14th. All attempts to contact the folks at Galileoscope.org have been rebuffed by an autoresponder, and my profession precludes "calling during normal business hours".

If they are shipping via FedEx Ground, I fear mine may be lost forever - living in a rural area where mailing and physical addresses are miles apart ... FedEx Express can find me, but Ground refuses to deliver without the "proper" street address (one that is listed in their computer).

Want. My. 'Scope.

Hi LucyInDisguise, and welcome.

My order number was 19994, and also arrived by FedEx ground. Alas, I fear you may be thoroughly screwed.

:-(

UPDATE:

I just got hold of a live person. A volunteer working out of her home in New Mexico. She says that my order is pending. Will email me Monday with (hopefully) a tracking number.

If I may quote my favorite BA ....Squeeeeeeeeee!!!
