National Coming Out Day

It's National Coming Out Day!

I fully support all members of the LGBTQ community in their quest to be true to themselves publicly as well as privately. The closet is dark and gloomy, my friends. Join us in celebrating your diversity and unique contribution to our culture and society.

Don't be afraid. Even though there are intolerant asshats who will judge you for being true to yourself, there are also people who support you fully. Come out into the sunshine and bask in the warmth of being the same person both publicly and privately - we've got your back.

I hate that things like National Coming Out Day are even necessary, that the US recognizes GLBT people once a year, that GLBT people are perceived as marginal enough that they need a special day, that GLBT (especially T) people are harrassed, and that young people especially can find no solution other than to kill themselves.

Phiala, I agree. My heart hurts every time I hear someone make a bigoted comment, because my mind (of course) assumes that my Smart Girl has probably been the target of similar comments.

So I'll keep plugging along, hoping to make my tiny corner of the Internet a safe place for the LGBTQ community...

Hey Janiece

One of my main transcription clients does a lot of oral histories of GLBTI/Q people in New Zealand so I have read (and typed) many, many stories that would just tear your heart out. It speaks volumes about how little progress we've made as a species when racism, homophobia, etc., are still so prevalent. But...but...slowly things are changing. Too slowly, but changing nonetheless. I hope you don't mind if I post a link to a vid I saw from Mooooog on Mental Poo. I love these people and wish every queer kid in the world had parents like them and you.

Greeting Card Emergency Guy has another set of Coming Out Day cards. I think they're kinda fun.
