Cool Auntie

Friday, November 12, 2010
The Smart Man and I recently got the news that we're going to be an Aunt and Uncle. That's right - my Smart BIL and his Awesome, Awesome Wife are expecting their first child.
Osh Kosh B'Gosh!

Is there anything cuter than baby shoes?

I can't wait!

I've never gotten a chance to be a cool Auntie before. My own Hot Sister never had children, although she and her husband filled the Cool Aunt and Uncle role admirably for my own Smart Twins. But now it's MY TURN. That kid is going to be so spoiled - I'm in my prime earning years, and the Smart Twins are too young and unstable to have children of their own just yet. So poor Smart BIL and his Awesome, Awesome Wife will bear the brunt of my excess. They don't know the gender yet, but once they find out - WATCH OUT.

Yippee!

I too relish my auntie role. Make sure you get them lots of toys that make noise - parents love that. Oh, and get them addicted to sugar early. That helps with getting them acclimated to the caffeine you will also be providing them. I feel like I've done a good job if we've played a fun game and had ice cream and soda....heehee

Great advice Stacey! One of teh biggest mistakes was putting me in charge of a Children's Christmas Party. I straight up told everyone that our theme was going to be Candy! Candy! and MORE CANDY!
Those kids didn't sleep for weeks.
Mission Accomplished.
Now, if I can teach my brothers offspring to make a decent mojito....

We just love Aunties that give loud toys, especially ones THAT. DON'T. TURN. OFF. It's most especially annoying when the giver of said present either has no children or children who no longer live in the house.

Congrats! And WooHoo!

Being a Cool Auntie is fabulous! You are going to lose your ever-loving mind. And your niece and/or nephew will love you for it.

(I was never much for getting toys for my nieces and nephews since they were getting toys from everyone else, but my nieces always appreciated my excellent taste in youngster fashion. It's kinda scary how much I enjoy clothes shopping for children, pre-teens and teens.)

You sound like my wife in her role as Grand-Aunt.

Of course I'm the one refurbishing a lap top to give to one of the two familys, should have the second one ready to go by the end of the year.

I, too, love being a Cool Auntie. My predilection is to give books. :)
