Genghis Khan and Spicy Pickles

Sunday, December 20, 2009
Today was a productive day. This morning we went to one of my favorite places on the planet, The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, where we checked out the new Genghis Khan exhibit with my Hot Mom and the Incomparable Anne™. The exhibit was wonderful, and I'd like to give a special shout-out to the volunteers manning the interactive sections. They were well-read on the subject at hand, and able to either answer our questions (like how, exactly, do you string a composite, compound bow with 13th century technology?), or could point us to resources that could. Well done, museum volunteers. As usual, you guys rock the house.

After watching an IMAX film on the Wild Coast of Africa called Wild Ocean, we headed over to the local Spicy Pickle for some lunch. Note to self: While the food was delish, there is nothing (and I mean nothing) on the Spicy Pickle menu that could be twisted into a "smart choice" from a Weight Watchers perspective. I looked it up when I got home, and everything has double digit fat content, and the sandwich I ate that I THOUGHT was a good choice ended up sucking up 19 points. So my menu for the rest of the day will consist of "water." But the actual spicy pickle spear was FABULOUS.

All in all, a very satisfying day, and since we got to the museum as soon as it opened, there were no crowds or irksome hordes to push me into an episode of unbecoming stabbiness. I made some strawberry jam when we got home, and now I'm off to Target to buy a few things for the week. Hope your Sunday is as satisfactory.

Aww... sorry your sandwich turned out to be high calorie.

I had lots of fun though! Thanks for inviting me!

Sorry about your sammie. We also enjoyed the exhibit and agree the docents were very knowledgable. I found that one point of popcorn combo'd with water gave me a full feeling. Also sugar free jello is always a good no point filler.

I have lots of flex points left, so it's not that big of a deal. I was just SHOCKED at how far off I was with my estimate.

Plus, this week includes both Christmas Eve (junk food graze-o-fest) and Christmas Dinner (high fat food graze-o-fest), so I'm pretty much screwed anyway. At least I didn't have the chips.

And Eric, I was wondering how long it would take someone to post that. You win...a tribe of trollops!

I want a day off. Everybody else has a day off. Why can't I have a day off?

Oh yeah, I work for me.

But I'll be goofing off with family and friends starting the 24th for 4 days (except my radio show, which really isn't work.)

If I ever get out your way. I want to go to all the museums.

I'm impressed. I spent my Sunday pretty much sitting on the couch.

Took out the trash, though. Go me!

nzforme, we're glad the health department will have no cause to pay you a visit. This is a good thing.

Heh, I hope this comes to NY.

We use "Mongols" as a synonym for "bad guys" around here for 2 reasons. First, the very first book my kids read about the ravages of was was about the Great Wall and why it was built. For obvious reasons.

The second is that I wanted the kids to have the image of a bad guy who looks just like them, for multiple, but I think also obvious, reasons.

I love the Denver Museum. As you well know, Janiece, it beats the San Diego museums we went to.
Isn't it amazing how the points stack up> In CA a restaurant is required to now post ALL NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION on the menu.
Shocking, to say the least.
And I am happy to report that the Graze-O-Fest slacks (sigh, yes, they have an elastic-ish waist) turned out very well!
