Since I attended Denvention 3 last year, I get to nominate books for the Hugo Award this year. The award will be presented at Anticipation, to be held in Montreal this summer.
The real trick is that some books were published, but never went into bookstores and web-sites...
ie: last year's L Ron Hubbard Writer's of the Future short story anthology. They did a limited printing for the author's copies for the ceremony in August, but for some reason it never made it to bookselling outlets so people could actually read it. Supposedly you can get the book through the publisher, but not through the normal channels like Amazon or Borders.
Several of the prize-winning authors and artists are distressed because people may not know their story is out there for Hugo consideration.
Now, I'm not eligible to vote, but I have read all the stories, and many are quite good (some were just weird). How do I know, you ask? Because my brother, Dr. Phil (Physics), had the honor of being the published finalist and had the first story in the anthology. So I recieved an autographed author's copy from the dear boy.
I am a Hot Chick living in Castle Rock, CO with my fabulous family. We have a rescue dog named "Jackson," and she's a Basenji/Shepherd mix. She's something of a head case, but we love her. I'm a U.S. Navy vet, and I currently work as an Enterprise Solutions Architect, specializing in VoIP and multimedia contact center design. I care about social justice, libraries, science, the U.S. Constitution and the military. I'm a tax and spend liberal in a largely red county, but I try not to be stabby about it. I knit for charity. Stupidity, cupidity and wanton assholery piss me off, and I'm more than a little soft when it comes to dogs and those who serve others. I blog about whatever I feel like. I use foul language, so if that sort of thing offends you, feel free to fuck off now - if I'm unwilling to clean up my language for my fabulous Great Auntie Margie, I'm unlikely to do so for you. Newcomers are welcome here, especially those who disagree with me, but trolling and spamming will be met with the Shovel of Doom™.

Let us know your choices when you make them.
I wish I had a list of all sort of eligible books & stories. There is probably one somewhere.
Is there a list? I've been looking for new stuff to read.
I could use a list, also, but it's basically anything that was published in 2008, so that doesn't really narrow it down much.
If anyone finds something, please let me know.
I found this sort-of list - links to sites pimping their own works. At least it's a reference point.

Thanks, Jeri.
Wendy, do you know where we can find a copy of Phil's story? There are four Denvention attendees in the UCF, and we'd be happy to consider his work.
I'll double check with the old boy tonight and let you know.
Thanks!!
