And So it Begins...

I've started my class in statistics, and so far I'm not ready to kill anyone yet. That may change once we get past the "mean," the "median" and the "mode," but so far, so good.

In other news, I gained .2 pounds over the last two weeks, so it's time to get a bit more disciplined about tracking my food intake now that the holidays are officially OVER. Back to the grind, in order to achieve my goals. I'm okay with that, of course, but I sure will miss donuts. Homer's got nothing on me when it comes to the donuts - I can seriously do some damage. Hmm...DONUTS.

We've also decided to start spring cleaning around here. We're not losing our minds or anything, but we're choosing one area of the house each weekend and we're trying to CLEAR OUT THE JUNK. The accumulation of 'stuff' is not something that's been a problem in the past, since I moved so often there was a regular purge. But we've been in the Big Yellow House for almost eight years now, and the stuff, it's ACCUMULATING. I'd really rather take care of it before it takes over the house, so we're on a mission until it's addressed. Today was the storage area under the basement stairs, and next weekend it'll be the coat closet. The big job is the unfinished storage area in the basement. That particular area is going to be a bear, as it has mysteriously GROWN over the years we've lived here. Where does all this shit come from?

Scary basement.

Good luck with that, I've been trying to work up enough whatever to do my spare bedroom.

And, yes, you can tell a geek from the number of discombobulated computer parts being saved in case they're needed...

Wendy, you have no idea. One of the things on the "to do" list is to take three out of the four spare monitors to Staples for recycling. Every PC in the house has a flat screen, but for some reason, we never get rid of a monitor that actually WORKS, no matter how old and small.

Update: The Smart Alacky Boy had to help me with my homework, as I was having trouble with my TI-83 Plus calculater. He thought that was uproariously funny (and so did I).

The only thing I miss about moving frequently is that it cleared out the junk.

I try to go through the basement on a yearly basis, but it gets away from me.

My current project it to cull the books, and make a trip to Half Price Books in Pittsburgh. I hope to be merciless in my culling--I have a lot of books that need to go.

I did massive amounts of culling for several months last year, and there's still no obviou dent. T.T So far this year I haven't conjured up the motivation to continue, though I need to, now that everything is all over the floor...

Also: Freecycle. :) You'd be amazed who can find uses for stuff that still works.

I'm still mucking out and sorting 16 years of stuff. You have my sincere empathy, I'm doing the same thing.

MWT, anything that still works gets donated to the Vietnam Vets of America, including clothes, etc.

A few weeks ago I took the hard drives out of three old desktops (just in case I get around to trying to get files off of them). Then I took the desktops and three CRTs (along with an old printer and fax machine that hadn't worked in ages and various other old electronics) to our local recycling center which also recycles e-waste for city residents. It's very handy.

Now I'm trying to persuade my roommate that, just maybe, he might want to do the same thing. Hopefully he'll get around to it sometime this year.
