A Very Geeky Christmas Tree

Saturday, December 8, 2007

This is our family Christmas Tree. It's a big one, because we put it in the living room, where the vaulted ceilings made the older 6 foot tree look like a toy.
It's hard to tell, but if you look very closely, you will see that this tree has all of the Star Trek ship Hallmark Ornaments. That's right - all of them, including the 1991 Enterprise. I never wanted the crew ornaments - they just weren't as cool to me.

When you plug the tree in, it sounds like some wacky version of Ten Forward.
These ornaments started coming out the year my twins were born, I started collecting them almost immediately. Some I had to buy through other collectors, since I was out of the country some years, but now that I'm stable, I buy them directly from Hallmark.
So eat your heart out, fellow Star Trek geeks! They're mine, all mine! Bwahahahaha!

I bow to your seriously superior geek-fu.

Wow.

Why, thank you, Nathan.

Having Michael Dorn speak to me every time I plug in the tree really is a huge helping of holiday geeky goodness.

I see some other non-standard ornaments on there too, like a guitar... ;)

You betcha, MWT. My Smart Man plays guitar, and I got him the ornaments for Christmas.

That's right, ladies. He's Smart and he plays guitar.

Oh. My. GOD.

I had no idea there were Hallmark Star Trek ornaments. I've never been more jealous of a Christmas tree in my life. Well, I don't actually think I've been jealous of a tree before at all, but if I have -- this one wins.

You know I'm going to have to go troll eBay now. DANG IT.

On a separate note, I also play guitar -- but very, very badly. I've been playing for about 24 years too, so I have no excuse.

Shawn, yes, geek-envy was the point. Bwahahaha!

You're just mean.

Well... I just got an EeePC, and it's super awesome. So there.

Heck, it's even small enough, I could hang it on the tree if I wanted to. :)

Janiece said...

Mean? Seriously? But now you can have your own Star Trek Ornament Geeky Goodness!

Sure, go and look on the bright side of things...

And no, not seriously, just being my normal, sarcastic, cynical, poorly timed self. ;o)

Very cool, Janiece. I saw Michael Dorn on an episode of Without a Trace with Nancy McKeon (recognizing that name would earn points in a different kind of geekdom). He did a great job and was very un-Klingon-like.

Janiece said...

Shawn, it's all good.

Anne, Michael Dorn could read the phone book, and I'd be entertained.

I want to know if the Michael Dorn ornament does the klingon mating growl? Now THAT would be the height of Geeky Goodness!

Anne C. said...

The man does have a great voice.

Janiece said...

No Klingon mating growl - sorry gals.

You win the geek-race, you have the most toys. :)

My husband is still trying to figure out where to hang his new blue Seahawks ornament on our very red & gold decorated country-style tree. Sigh.

Jeri, don't feel bad. As MWT noted, our non-traditional ornaments out number the traditional ones.

Our tree is eclectic, but it suits us.
