Boogie Blogging Friday

Friday, May 15, 2009

Boogie's been a tired pooch the last few days, and today turned his nose up at his breakfast. He usually skips breakfast once or twice a week (unless there's gravy), so it's not really an indicator with him.

The cleaning people kept him from his usual 10 hours of naptime yesterday, so I guess he's making up for it today. Stupid cleaning people. Stupid vacuum.

Jim, I like gravy, too.

I'm sure it's the horrible heat.

It's not been that hot here, although he does suffer in the summer...

Janiece - We were obviously twins in another life. Matter of fact, think I'll make biscuits and maple sausage gravy tomorrow night for supper.

How do you make sausage gravy? This interests me..

Kimby, there's really no "recipe" per se. Simply brown a pound of bulk maple sausage (I use Jimmy Dean), add about two tablespoons of flour until the sausage is coated, add about a half-gallon of milk, lots of course-ground black pepper, and cook and stir for about an hour. Use either flour or corn starch to thicken (purists use flour - I use corn starch because I'm lazy) as it cooks. Serve over buttermilk biscuits.

It's really more of a art form than a recipe - I had to try and make it a couple times before I got a good feel for it.

This is a traditional breakfast item from the southern part of the U.S., usually called "biscuits and gravy." Sometimes sausage gravy is also served over chicken friend steak (or chicken-fried chicken).

Warning: causes cardiovascular events in the uninitiated.

Wendy, anything else to add?
