Hooptie Search

Tuesday, April 28, 2009
As you all know, the SmartBoy had an accident and totaled his hooptie this year, which required us to go to the Douglas County Justice Center so he could face the music.

But his great nightmare is now over, and we're searching for a new hooptie for him. Because the circumstances of the accident were ambiguous, we'll be splitting the cost of the vehicle this time. I have a couple of leads on older Hondas that might be suitable, so we'll see how it goes.

I remember when my father was shopping for a car for my little sister (who could dent a fender by looking at it), the main feature he was looking for was that it had to be able to survive being driven over by an M1-Abrams tank.

Nathan, after two accidents and two tickets in 15 months, I may just use your father's criteria this time.

I missed the update to the Judgement Day post, so I didn't know how it turned out until you were talking about the "new" hooptie on Saturday. I turned to SmartBoy and said "I take it things went well with the judge?"

Which reminds me... I wanted to say how much I like your kid. I know he screws up about as much as any teenager does, but all in all he's great - smart, funny, and opinionated (but not in an obnoxious way). Kinda like his mom. ;)

You're doing a great job.

Thanks, Anne. I like him, too. Most of the time.

...had to be able to survive being driven over by an M1-Abrams tank... Having driven these in a former life, I'd have to say good luck with that. There's such a satisfying crunch and a little squeak to finish. Ah, good times, good times...

Why don't you get a couple of Pontiacs? Should be pantloads of them cheap now, right? Get a couple more for spares, store 'em in the side lot in the tall grass... ;)

Seriously though, would a new car pressure a new sense of care? The new Insight hybrids are cheaper than you'd think, get 50+ mpg, loads of room, tax breaks, etc.

Just a thought...

Janiece, didn't you read the listing? You could fly or take the Amtrak to Lincoln, Nebraska and then drive the Gremlin back to Parker.

Ah! Helpful again! Boy, I'm really good at this, aren't I?

Eric,

Don't those things explode when you hit 'em?

Karl, the only new vehicle I would consider at this point is the aforementioned M1-Abrams tank.

Eric? How about you take the Amtrak to Nebraska and drive the Gremlin to Parker? I'll eve let you stay here overnight before you have to take the train back to the east coast.

Now that would be helpful.

Um, here's an idea.

Just saying.

I'd rather buy the M1...
