Snowstorms do a number on the pear tree in my backyard, including breaking the topmost trunk (the one that makes the tree taller every year). SO irritating.
I am a Hot Chick living in Parker, CO with my fabulous family. We're currently without a dog since we lost our beloved Boogie the Giant Schnauzer. I'm a U.S. Navy vet, and I currently work as a Principal Systems Engineer in the Military Industrial Complex, specializing in VoIP and Next Generation 9-1-1 technologies. I care about science, the U.S. Constitution and the military. I'm a tax and spend liberal in a largely red county, but I try not to be stabby about it. I travel A lot, I aspire to run faster than I do, and I donate knitted cold weather gear to various charities. Stupidity, cupidity and wanton assholery piss me off, and I'm more than a little soft when it comes to dogs and those who serve others. I blog about whatever I feel like. I use foul language, so if that sort of thing offends you, feel free to fuck off now - if I'm unwilling to clean up my language for my fabulous Great Auntie Margie, I'm unlikely to do so for you. Newcomers are welcome here, especially those who disagree with me, but trolling and spamming will be met with the Shovel of Doom™.

I see the problem -- yer branch isn't attached anymore. That's why it's laying in the yard like that.

And that's why we have duct tape, right?
Neither one of you is very helpful.
How about staples?
Poor widdle branch...
Make sure you check with your local extension agent to find out the proper way to trim the broken stub so it heals correctly at the trunk line.

Wendy, usually we just ignore it and hope it heals up. At least that's what we did with the Maple in front when it lost a major branch.
Plants and trees must be HARDY to survive my yard. I am woefully neglectful.
But I make up for it by babying my dog.
I was just noting that it was a pretty jagged break. Maybe just even up that pointy edge.
And you should always spoil the dog.

Poor tree, but you actually lost me at SNOW.
I love snow, but only in its right place...Dec, Jan, maybe Feb. But the end of April? Nope.....
Poor little tree...maybe it was trying to get away from the big bad snowfall?
Maples are notorious for shedding branches. We have 3 huge ones behind the house, about 150 years old.
Every spring it looks like the set of a Sugar Maple Zombie flick.
