Next Stop: Boulder

Yesterday the Smart Boy and I went to Greeley to check out the University of Northern Colorado as a possible college destination. If he decides to pursue a career in teaching, he'll probably end up there. It's a charming campus, small and well kept. UNC is considered a regionally ranked school, and tends to be the "go-to" place for people who want to be teachers.

Today we'll be heading up to Boulder to visit the University of Colorado. If the Smart Boy chooses to pursue a career in physics, he'll probably end up there. It's a nationally ranked university, with an excellent science program.

Of course, like most 17 year olds, the Smart Boy is having trouble deciding what route he wants to take. That's not a surprise. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

He's going to apply to three schools, and he won't have to make a decision until it comes time to actually accept any acceptances that come his way.

Heh. Tell him to look at the University of Florida if he's interested in Physics. Their program is one of the better ones in the south... and he'll get a bit of a different experience than from someplace much like what he's already experienced.

Add to that that Gainesville is a college town very much like Boulder.

He wants to stay in-state for a variety of reasons.

CU has an excellent physics department (with three Nobel Laureates on staff), and is also a Top 10 school for federal scientific grants.

If that's the route he goes, I suspect he'll end up in Boulder.

Sarah Palin is in the area right now! Why don't you go cheer her on? She's just Joe Sixpack!

Hannah, don't be silly. Palin appearances are open season on liberals, and I have to stay healthy (and working) long enough to get the Smart Boy out of University.

I hear she's a good shot...

Yeah, if Palin shoots you in the face, it's because she aimed for it.
