I went and got my eyes checked today. Even though my eyesight hasn't changed much in the last 7 years or so, I still go every year for an exam, just to make sure everything's okay.
This year my optometrist diagnosed me with "blepharitis."
Lovely.
Now I have to take flax seed oil orally, and start washing my eyelids every day with medicated wipes.
It's really not that surprising - one of the leading causes of blepharitis is rosacea, which I've been struggling with for a couple years. So I get to add one more item to the list of things that don't work quite right anymore.
Stupid rosacea. Stupid blepharitis. Stupid aging.

I can't tell you how grateful I am that I've thus far dodged the rosacea thing. However, I do need wildly expensive eye drops to control the allergy induced itching. Without them, I will rub my eyes black and blue.
It's quite lovely when it gets to that point. Not.
I have the rosacea under control with the cream my dermatologist gave me, so I usually don't look like a pimply teen. It just fucking irks me that it's spread to my eyes.
Grr.
Because my brain is weird, I keep reading "blahphitis"
Which seems somehow appropriate. :)
And apropos only of misreading and misrembering, my grandmother, who NEVER EVERY says bad words unless it's, "Are we going to play 'Oh Hell' tonight?" (where Oh Hell is the name of one of our favorite card games) has on multiple occasions called her perscription for her ulcerative colitis "that asshole medicine." (Correct name is Asacol)
I almost fell down and hurt myself laughing the first time I heard her say that. My aunt looked extremely upset and shocked.
I hope that this is something that will easily be controlled.
Just wait sweet pea
It only gets worse...
Aging sucks, but it damn sure beats the alternative.
And be nice - I'm live on the radio, broadcasting across the airwaves and through the interwebs.
Michelle, I'm asymptomatic, actually, and my optometrist says I can remain so as long as I do what I'm supposed to.
He only identified it using the eye microscope thingy.
Yes, damnit, "eye microscope thingy" is the technical term.
Vince, I'm always nice.
And Mom? You can keep those stories to yourself. Seriously. Otherwise I may put out my own eye with a fork.
Well shit, I am older than you and haven't been to teh eye doctor since I retired (3 years? Why it seems like yesterday!) so I guess I better get all of that crap taken care of. I have to get teh boobs smashed this year, after gaffing it off for, oh, 3 years, so I guesss I might as well get every orifice, crack and crevice checked.
Damn it.
Amy, to quote Vince, getting every orifice, crack and crevice checked sure beats the alternative.
