Just got off the phone with the insurance company regarding Thursday's hail-storm. I had a roofing company come out and inspect the roof today, and the damage was severe enough that I needed to make a claim. The adjuster will be calling in the next couple of days so they can come out and inspect, including our shredded screens.
In other news, the plumber will be out first thing in the morning to repair another leak in the SmartBoy's bathroom, and the handyman will be out Wednesday to repair a piece of siding that fell off during the hail-storm as well as several other minor jobs.
Home ownership comes in waves - we can go months with no repairs or jobs that need doing, and then the whole place turns to shit overnight and I spend two weeks chasing down repair people and making appointments. We've already used this plumber once and had a good experience, so now I'm hoping that the roofer and handyman service turn out to be equally professional and service oriented.
Why, yes, I am a hopeless optimist with delusions of positive outcomes. Why do you ask?

There are many advantages to home ownership, but this isn't one of them. Hope all goes well with the insurance and repairs.
Finding a good recommendation on a plumber has been the hardest problem I've had with the house (other than having a delivery service cancel our order for the water heater, twice, so we changed which store we were ordering through).
Just keep the contact names, make sure everybody knows the insurance company will be paying them (if your insurance works that way), and if they screw up they will be back to fix it (or you'll go contractor hunting, and I'm not talking about using a phone here).
Wow. Those screens are scary impressive.
Glad you weren't outside!
Steve, our plumber is pretty good, so at least we have that licked.
Because the roofers were scouring the neighborhood for business after the hail storm, they're pretty much all taking payment directly from the insurance company. In fact, the quote I received from the company indicates under "I/We the Owner agree to pay: Insurance proceeds," and I confirmed with the PM that they're fine with us signing over the insurance check (plus deductible).
I'm really hoping the handyman company turns out to be a good find. Neither the SmartMan nor I are particularly "handy," and if this company turns out to do good work, I'm quite sure we'll be calling them often.
At least it is all repairable!
What about the cars? Several years ago friend's had roof, window AND vehicle damage from a similar hail storm. The roof of the car looked like they were trying to make steel drums out of it!

Wendy, all the vehicles are okay.
I'm glad - if the SmartMan's new Jeep had been damaged, that would have been a real BUMMER.
