I love trees. I grew up here in Colorado, where aspens and evergreens are abundant in the mountains below the timber line, but Denver and its surrounds tend to be more of a "high plains" ecosystem. As such, trees must be cultivated rather than growing wild.
Then I joined the military, and lived and visited a wide variety of places - all of them different, and all of them beautiful in their own way. I saw lots and lots of trees. Hmm...trees!
But nothing compared to the first time my Smart Man and I drove across Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. Those states know how to grow trees, by golly!
In any case, my Smart Man and I planted a small Maple in our back yard a couple years ago. Typically nurseries will sell only male trees, as that's what homeowners want. So imagine our surprise when our little Maple turned out to be female! (But surprise in a good, "gee, now we have a male maple and female Maple" kind of way, not in a "damn, we have a girl, drown the little fucker" kind of way.)
So here's our little Maple's "flowers" for this season.
I love trees.

OK, now I think *you* are bug fuck crazy.
Helicopters drive me nuts. I spend all spring and the early part of the summer pulling up baby maples from my garden, yard, and between the boards on my deck. UGH.
Is that a sugar maple? It's definitely not a silver maple, but I can't tell if the branch spread is wide enough for a sugar maple.
I love my sugar maple, even if I HATE HATE HATE the helicopters.
"damn, we have a girl, drown the little fucker"
THAT belongs in the China, You Suck thread. ;-)
Mmmmm....maple!
That is a tree I would love to have in my yard..sadly as of yet, I do not.
Michelle, it's a Japanese Maple - the leaves are purple in the spring, the green you see in the pics in the summer and bright yellow in the fall.
And don't be dissing my tree. I love my tree. :)
John, I put that in there because of the "China Sucks" thread. Like trees, I like to cross-pollinate. Hee!
I have 3 HUUUGE sugar maples in my backyard. They have horse-hitching ironworks embedded in them, to give you an idea of how old they are (my house is located on what used to be a barnyard).
Like Michelle, I love the trees, hate the seeds in my drains (need to get a gutter guard this year).
We have a female Clump Maple, and we love it. I can't get more specific about it than "Maple", though.
Ooh! Trees! So pretty!
Every time I read or hear people writing/talking about trees, I hear Matt Frewer reading the last few lines from The Lorax. I can't help it - I love that TNT special so.
