Denvention - Day 4

Saturday, August 9, 2008
Today was Day 4 of the WorldCon convention. We bought some loot, including Greg Bear's new novel (signed), and the Smart Man found a few more he couldn't live without. Jeri also bought me a copy of Lois McMaster Bujold's Falling Free, my favorite novel of hers. Anne and I even stood in line for two hours to get our loot signed by the great woman herself. Fan-girls, that's us.

In the morning, all four of the UCF attendees went to Ms. Bujold's reading, where she read us the first two chapters of the new Miles novel. Squee! It was marvelous, of course. I can't wait until it comes out.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for: Scalzi stalking Saturday! We accosted the poor man on his way out of his KoffeeKlatsch, and made him sit still for the official awarding of the UCF T-Shirt and a photo that proved our stalking temerity. The proof (cue trumpets):

That's right, fellow UCFers: that's an official UCF T-shirt over his arm. I think that should count as an endorsement. Bwahahaha!

Here's the UCF having dinner at the local P.F. Chang's.

Hmm...Chinglish!

And Jim, I did kiss Scalzi's bald spot for you. About 5 people took pictures of it, I will be tracking down one of them for photographic evidence.

That's a great picture. ;) It looks like Anne and Scalzi are going to head off to frolick in daisies right after the picture is over.

I looove frolicing in the daisies.

I would like to point out that I was not, in fact, taking a nap on Jeri's shoulder in the second photo. The guy taking the photo said "squish together, so I can get everyone in! Turns out there was oodles of space. :P

PS -- We can all go congratulate Scalzi on his Hugo win! (He got one for fan writer.) Tania, our agent in the field, reported it this evening via text.

Did you personalize Scalzi's T-shirt like ours?

Too cool.

I'm now trying to deal with the following paradox/conundrum.

-Scalzi is famous because he writes books and a blog and lots of us know who he is.

-UCF is famous because lots of us blog at each other and now one famous guy (Scalzi) knows who we are.

P.S. You guys are having wayyyy too much fun and need to export some of it.

Scalzi's shirt is not personalized. I had one extra, and decided to give it to him on the spur of the moment.

Your Scalzi pic turned out better than mine. Although - Scalzi doesn't look quite so squirrely in mine - Tania's eyes were closed. Probably daydreaming about kissing him on the head. ;)

It was great fun - this gang is just as wonderful in person as they are on their blogs. I'm really glad I made the trek to Denver.

Dammit Jim-Anne! I'm an software architect, not a photographer!

I really enjoyed meeting everyone and now I'm trolling through Tania's links to get y'all added to my "geek-blogs" folder on GReader :)
