McCain's VP Pick

Friday, August 29, 2008
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

My response? Meh.

I don't like McCain. I used to. I liked him just fine, actually, until he compromised his values to feed his ambition, on an issue that should of had him frothing at the mouth. Plus I really don't think he's very bright, you know? So his VP selection could of been a genetically fused super-human taking the best traits of every Nobel Prize winner in history, and I still wouldn't vote for him.

So in spite of her accomplishments and reputation, and over and above the pending investigation to find out whether she tried to have a state official fire her ex-brother-in-law from his job as a state trooper, there's not much this woman can do to shore up McCain. At least in my mind.

But I am happy to see a woman on one of the tickets. Even if I know it's a blatant pander to the PUMA-'tards, I support seeing more women in positions of (potential) power.

I'm thinking that it is just trying to pander to women voters. I am wondering if she was chosen just BECAUSE she is a woman, and it will be like Christine Todd Whitman as head of the EPA - purely ornamental ('cause you KNOW them wimmen just can't think about serious issues, they's heads just too small!) or she has some AMAZING super-power that until now has been well hidden and we will see what an ASTOUNDING VP SHE'LL BE??!!!!!
I'm betting the former.....

I'm with Amy.

Picking a woman as a running mate is all the Republicans have at this point.

After seeing your post, I went to MSNBC.com, whereupon I began to laugh.

At this:

"I've been blessed with the right timing here," Palin said before the election. "There's no doubt that Alaskans right now are dealing in an atmosphere of distrust of government and industry."

Alaskans are dealing in an atmosphere of distrust of government? With their governor under investigation, an indicted Senator, and the first entry in a Google search for "alaska corruption" being a Wikipedia article titled "Alaska political corruption probe"? Really? Really really? You don't say?

[snort]

I totally have a blog entry for today, and I wasn't sure I would.

Eric, I'm convinced that American politics serves no greater purpose than that of blog-fodder.

So you won't have to worry about having blog ideas until at least November. At least.

Holllld on a minute here.
I end up screaming and throwing things at teh teevee a lot (except for Modern Marvels Go History Channel!) so maybe i am missing something.
McCAin picked a VP that is UNDER INVESTIGATION?
Has he lost his mind?????

Yes, but (believe it or not) I really do try (not very successfully) to avoid the subject on my blog. Usually the pain it invokes isn't worth it.

But sometimes, it has to be done.

Speaking of which: a post full of admittedly cheap shots, with a hypothetical explanation of why McCain chose Palin, is now up at Giant Midgets.

The Mechanicky gal likes Modern Marvels? Ooooh, I likes the Mechanicky gal, precious, I does.

Ok, crappy Gollum impression aside, the Palin investigation is crap - and since it was initiated in a back room deal by her own party you watch if it doesn't go away dammed skippy quick now. And it's all bullshit anyway, she was well within her rights as governor to have the guy shitcanned - there's a bit more to the story, but nobody outside of Alaska gives a crap, and frankly most of us don't either. And it's not going to go anywhere.

So the GOP needed to figure out a sure fire way to get her out of the governor's chair and this, my friends is it. My full analysis of the situation is up on Stonekettle Station, as you might expect.

Not that I actually disagree with anything said here :)
