I've always enjoyed the essays of Laurie Notaro (The Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club, et al). Recently she published her first novel, There's a (Slight) Chance I Might Be Going to Hell.
The Mechanicky Gal sent it to me, and I just finished it last night. The best way to describe it is that she's a female Carl Hiaasen. She makes me laugh out loud, even though her plot points are wildly unlikely. She can also turn a phrase like nobody's business (Chub-Rub, anyone?).
If you're looking for a fun, fast and humorous read, Laurie's your gal.

I love Carl Hiaasen and have read everything he's written. My favorite was Basket Case.
"My baby is a basket case
A bipolar mama in leather and lace
Face like an angel--she's a perfect waste
My baby is a basket case."
It's actually a Warren Zevon song. It's awesome. :)
That said, I'm going to have to check out this book, thanks for the recommendation!
I just read SPQ's Wedding Planner/Divorce Guide and wasn't too excited - it lacked substance.
But I can a: see me wrestling with a shirt/camisole and ending up with it wrapped around me head. I've doen it before, and b: FEELING like it has embedded itsel;f in my head with attendant bruising.
I'm a spaz.
Is there a slight chance that book is on its way to me? ;)
